2verdiente Menschen zu ehren und die jüngeren zu der gleichen Gesinnung zu veranlassen, damit ein Wettstreit sei unter den
3jeweiligen Epheben um Disziplin und um Gehorsam gegenüber den vom Volk für ihre gute Ordnung eingesetzten (Lehrern); (und) damit auch
4Rat und Volk öffentlich verdiente Menschen ehren, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen der Rat: dass die erlosten Vorsitzenden
5für die kommende Volksversammlung hierüber verhandeln lassen und die Beschlussvorlage des Rates in die Volksversammlung einbringen,
6wonach der Rat es für gut befindet, dass man belobige die Epheben unter dem Archon - - - und sie bekränze mit
7goldenem Kranz wegen ihrer Frömmigkeit gegenüber den Göttern und ihrer Disziplin, die sie stets während des gesamten Jahres
8bewiesen haben, und ihres Ehrgeizes für den Rat und das Volk, und verkündige diesen Kranz an den Dionysien in der
9Stadt bei den Tragödien-Uraufführungen und an den Panathenäen und Eleusinien und Ptolemäen bei den Sportwettkämpfen; dass
10für die Anfertigung der Kränze und die Verkündigungen Sorge tragen die Generäle und der Schatzmeister der
11Militärkasse; dass ihnen auch sein soll ein Ehrensitz bei allen Spielen, die die Stadt veranstaltet; dass der jeweils gewählte
12Bausachverständige ihnen den Platz dafür zuteile, wie sie es erbitten; – Da auch ihr Kosmete
13dargelegt hat, wie sie in Gehorsam zu ihm viel Nützliches bewirkt haben für das Volk zu seiner Sicherheit und seinen Schutz,
14und er Rat und Volk bittet, ihnen einen Preis für ihre Mühen zu gewähren, um ihn zu weihen: dass man ihnen,
15wie der Kosmete bittet, der Würdigung halber gebe, was dem Volk (als Preis) geeignet scheint, und dessen Weihung im Lykeion zu gestatten, um ein Denkmal
16für ihre Mühe und Ordnung zu haben, und daraufzuschreiben ihre Namen mit Patronym und die Namen der Demen und des
17Kosmeten und der Lehrer; dass man auch belobige ihren Kosmeten - - - S.d. - - - aus dem Demos - - -,
18wegen - - - und seines Ehrgeizes, den er stets für den Rat und das Volk hegt; - - -
19- - - und zu bekränzen gemäß dem Gesetz; dass man auch belobige ihre Lehrer: den Knabentrainer Hermodoros
20S.d. Heortios aus dem Demos Acharnai, und den Waffenausbilder Persaios S.d. Symmachos aus dem Demos Kikynna, und den Speerwurflehrer Nikomachos S.d. Niko-
21machos aus dem Demos Aphidna, und den Katapultausbilder Pedieus S.d. Neandros aus dem Demos Kerameis, und den Bogenschießtrainer Sosos S.d. Proxenos
22aus dem Demos Sphettos, und den Sekretär - - - S.d. - - - aus dem Demos - - -, und bekränze einen jeden von ihnen mit einem Olivenkranz;
23dass diesen Beschluss der Sekretär, der während der Prytanie amtiert, aufzeichne auf eine steinerne Stele und die Namen der

2to honour those who are worthy and to challenge the young men to (adopt) a like-minded attitude, in order that there should be an incentive for those who are ephebes
3to always obey those appointed by the People to be in charge of their orderliness; and in order that the
4Council and the People may be seen to be honouring those who are worthy, for good fortune, the Council shall decide, that the presiding committee allotted
5for the forthcoming Assembly shall place these matters on the agenda, and submit the opinion of the Council to the
6People, that it seems good to the Council to praise the ephebes in the archonship of - , and crown them with a gold
7crown for their piety towards the gods and their discipline, which they continually showed throughout the
8year, and for their love of honour towards the Council and the People; and announce this crown at the new tragedies of the City Dionysia,
9and at the gymnastic competitions of the Panathenaia and Eleusinia and Ptolemaia; and the
10generals and the treasurer of the military fund shall take care of the making of the crowns and their announcement;
11and they shall have the front seats at all the competitions that the city puts on; and the elected director of works
12shall always assign them the seats just as they request; and since their commander
13has also rendered an account of how, obeying him, they accomplished many useful things for the safety and protection
14of the People, and since he requests of the Council and the People that they be granted a dedication as a reward for their endurance, they shall have it,
15just as their commander requests, whatever shall seem good to the People, for their honour, and its erection in the Lyceum shall be
16a monument to their love of labour and discipline; and to inscribe their names with their father’s names and deme and the name of their
17commander and trainers; and to praise also their commander - - -
18for his good-will and love of honour, which he continually shows towards the Council and the People - - -
19- - - and to be crowned in accordance with the law; and to praise also their trainers, their physical trainer, Hermodoros
20son of Heortios of Acharnai, and their weapons trainer, Persaios son of Symmachos of Kikynna, and their javelin trainer, Nikomachos son of
21Nikomachos of Aphidna, and their artillery officer, Pedieus son of Neandros of Kerameis, and their archery trainer, Sosos son of Proxenos
22of Sphettos, and their secretary - - - ; and to crown each of them with a foliage crown;
23and the prytany secretary shall inscribe this decree on a stone stele, as well as the names of the
24ephebes according to their tribes, and stand it [in the Agora]; and the expenditure accrued - - -
